Texas Charges More Fees for EVs

Texas Governor, Greg Abbott, signed a new law, which will require a $400 fee to register an EV in Texas. There will also be $200 annual fee every year on top of the normal registration fee of $50.75 for most passenger vehicles.
Why are they doing this? The state wants to recoup gas tax money that helps fund the maintenance of roads that all vehicles use. 33 other states also have these fees to help maintain the money necessary for road maintenance.
Conclusion: While we hate fees, we hate big, tire-busting potholes and congested highways more. EVs will still save plenty of money by using electricity instead of gasoline. Also, the people buying EVs should not go bankrupt from this because $50,000 + $400 = $50,400.
Tips: The law starts on Sept 1st, if you can register your vehicle now you will avoid the extra fees and I would register for 2-3 years if possible as long as you plan on keeping your vehicle for the long-term.
After Sept 1st, if you register for multiple years you will have the $400 fee for an original registration and then in the following years if you register for multiple years you will pay the additional $200 for every year making a 2 year registration $400 more expensive than right now.
Please share this with your friends and family and save some money now while you can!
